Matthew Piotrowski Earns West Region Weekly Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's Matthew Piotrowski earned another weekly award on Tuesday for his sensational hitting display in a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal State San Marcos.

One day after earning CCAA Player of the Week honors, Piotrowski was named the NCBWA Player of the Week for the week of March 13-19, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America announced.

Piotrowski batted .563, going 9-for-16, with 12 RBIs and five runs scored to lead Cal State LA to a 3-1 series win against Cal State San Marcos. He had a triple with four home runs to post a 1.438 slugging percentage while reaching base 52.9 percent of the time for an impressive OPS of 1.967.

He had a monstrous game in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a triple and three homers, driving in five runs and scoring three times. His 15 total bases are second all-time for a single game in Cal State LA's program history and he became just the fifth Golden Eagle to hit three home runs in a game.

Holy Names pitcher Eddie Curley earned NCBWA Pitcher of the Week honors.

Piotrowski becomes the first West Region Player of the Week from Cal State LA since A.J. Salgado earned the honors last season on Feb. 22.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with the opener of a four-game series at Stanislaus State.
