Matthew Piotrowski Named CCAA Player Of The Week

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's Matthew Piotrowski has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of March 13-19, the conference announced on Monday.

Piotrowski hit four home runs during a four-game series against Cal State San Marcos at Reeder Field, including three in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday. He batted .563, going 9-for-16,  including a triple and four home runs to post a 1.438 slugging percentage. He reached base 52.9 percent of the time for an impressive OPS of 1.967. He drove in 12 runs and scored five times.

The senior third baseman from Lancaster had a monstrous game in the second game on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a triple and three homers. He drove in five runs and scored three times. His 15 total bases are second all-time for a single game in Cal State LA's program history. Piotrowski became just the fifth Golden Eagle to hit three home runs in a game. Earlier on Saturday, he drove in two runs for a 7 RBI day.

He also had five RBI in the opener on Friday on just one hit. He drove in runs with a sac fly, a grounder and a three-run blast.

Piotrowski is currently leading the CCAA with a .833 slugging percentage. He is second in batting (.444) and fourth in hits (32) and RBI (29).

Cal State LA, after taking three of four games against Cal State San Marcos, will return to action on Friday in the opener of a four-game series at Stanislaus State.
