LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team put forth a winning performance Saturday on a rare sunny day at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex.
Playing under warm conditions - finally! - the Golden Eagles earned the doubles point and won five of six singles matches in a 6-1 win over Hope International. Cal State LA (2-7) won at home for the first time this season, while Hope International (2-6)
The Golden Eagles set the tone for the match in doubles by taking the sets at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Sarah Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, over Julia Ramos and Shahrazad Barakat, and
Alexandra Hincu and
Hideka Takamura won at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, over Dejana Markovic and Maxime Mendes.
Courtlyn Lam and
Savaughna Mayo had a 5-2 lead at No. 3 doubles when the doubles point was clinched.
Olmos won the battle at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, over Ramos, Kurokawa won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, over Barakat, Takamura won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Mendes, Hincu beat Fiorella Dreux, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and Lam beat Catrina Hibbard, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
Lea Rolland fell at No. 6 singles to Lisanne Siebrecht, 6-3, 6-2.
Cal State LA will return to action on Tuesday against Middlebury at 1:30 p.m., weather permitting.
