LA MIRADA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team had some outstanding performances on Monday in a hard-fought loss to Biola.
The Golden Eagles took the doubles point, but Biola won four of the six singles contests to post a 4-3 victory in a match between PacWest Conference members. Cal State LA (1-1) got singles wins from Sakura Kurokowa and Savaughn Mayo in the match.
Cal State LA took the doubles point thanks to victories from the No. 1 team of
Sarah Olmos and Kurokawa and the No. 3 team of Mayo and
Courtlyn Lam. Olmos and Kurokawa beat Colbeyshae Emery and Alexandria Mann, 6-2, while Mayo and Lam edged Gaby Carvajal and Amelia Kitts, 6-4.
Kurakawa won in straight sets at No. 2 singles over Brooke Fager, 7-5 and 6-2 and Mayo rallied from a big deficit in the third set to post a 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 win over Amelia Kitts at No. 6 singles.
Olmos played an outstanding match at No. 1 singles, taking the first set from Emery, who is ranked 40th in the nation, before falling in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Alexandra Hincu fell to Mann at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3,
Hideka Takamura fell to Lilly McNeill, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4 singles and Lam fell to Gaby Carvajal, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday at 1 p.m. with a match at UC IrvineÂ
