SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State LA's
Javany McDermott highlighted a strong final day of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track & Field Championships with a conference title in the triple jump.
McDermott also placed fourth in the high jump on a day where Cal State LA scored points in 11 events and finished fourth in the team competition with 69 points.
Cal State LA also got a pair of second-place finishes with defending CCAA 100-meter champion
Valexsia Droughn taking second on Saturday and the 4x100 relay team of Droughn,
Sanaia Woods,
Dericka Braden and
Eden Hahn placing second as well.
Mya Ferguson earned All-CCAA honors with a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles and also took fourth in the 100 hurdles.
The top-three finishers in each event earn All-CCAA recognition.
McDermott, who has had a sensational final season with the Golden Eagles, saved her best in the triple jump for the conference championships. She recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with a season's best mark of 39-9.25 to win a spirited battle with Cal Poly Pomona's Jade De Souza, who was a close second with a mark of 39-8.50. McDermott recorded her best mark on her final effort.
She came back to finish fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-1.75.
Droughn also had a season's best effort in the 100 with her second-place finish in a time of 12.00. Teammate
Eden Hahn was sixth in the race with a time of 12.28.
Cal State LA's 4x100 relay team took second in its final with a time of 47.26, which was a big improvement over their previous season best of 47.98.
Ferguson recorded a time of 64.63 in the 400 hurdles while placing third and had a time of 14.82 while taking fourth in the 100 hurdles.
Woods earned points for the Golden Eagles with a strong fifth-place finish in the 200 in 25.56, while Cal State LA also earned a pair of fifth-place finishes in the field events on Saturday.
Imani McGee was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 39-5.25 and
Jordyn Wyatt was fifth in the discus with a mark of 125-2.
Pamela Grissom also earned points with a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 38-8.75, while Braden was eighth in the 400 in 58.77.
Cal State LA's track and field teams dedicated the conference championship meet to volunteer assistant coach Darrell Augusta and his family. Augusta passed away earlier this week.
