Stevenson Named West Region Field Athlete Of The Year

NEW ORLEANS -- Cal State LA's Summer Stevenson, the newly-crowned NCAA Division II triple jump national champion, has been named the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Female Field Athlete of the Year.

Regional award winners were announced on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Each of the eight regions - Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West - honored both gender's top track and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.

Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas. Performances from both the NCAA championships and the regular season were considered.

Stevenson won the triple jump title at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships with a personal record of 12.93 meters (42-5.25) in a thrilling battle with Embry-Riddle's Mikaela Miles. Stevenson took the lead on her third jump and then held off Miles, who recorded a jump of 42-4.75 on her final attempt, just one-half inch behind Stevenson.

Stevenson becomes Cal State LA's first West Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year since Calista Lyon claimed the honor in 2012 after winning a national title in the discus. Jonon Young won the award for indoor track in 2024 after winning the indoor triple jump title.

Stevenson's national championship is the 51st in women's track - both indoor and outdoor - and including AIAW, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division I at Cal State LA.

Stevenson became the California Collegiate Athletic Association's first individual national champion in women's track and field since 2017.

Earlier in the season, Stevenson scored 15 points in field events at the CCAA Championships, highlighted by a conference title in the triple jump and a fourth-place finish in the long jump. She was later named the CCAA Newcomer of the Meet.

Stevenson was one of two CCAA student-athletes to earn a regional award on Monday. Cal Poly Humboldt's Isabel Perez-Zoghbi was named the Female Track Athlete of the Year
