SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State LA's women's track and field team put in some strong performances Friday on Day 2 of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium.
The Golden Eagles are competing this week with heavy hearts after the passing of popular volunteer assistant coach Darrell Augusta. Head coach
Tina Fernandes said the Golden Eagles are dedicating the meet to Augusta and his family.
Senior hurdler
Mya Ferguson qualified for a pair of finals with outstanding preliminary races on Friday. She qualified second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.66 and qualified third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 65.37.Â
Valexsia Droughn, the defending CCAA champion in the 100 meters, qualified fifth in that event on Friday with a time of 12.22 Teammate
Eden Hahn qualified sixth with a time of 12.35.
Dericka Braden qualified eighth in the 400 with a time of 59.76 and
Sanaia Woods qualified eighth in the 200 with a time of 25.96.
In the long jump finals,
Javany McDermott was 10th with a mark of 17-2.25 and
Alyssa Johnson was 16th with a mark of 15-6.
The final day of the three-day championships will be held on Saturday at San Francisco State. A live stream will be shown beginning at 1 p.m. and live stats will also be available.
