LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team bounced back on a hot Friday afternoon with a winning performance against Hope International.
The Golden Eagles captured the doubles point and then won five of six singles contests to beat the Royals, 6-1, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (5-7) snapped a two-match losing streak with the win over Hope International (4-11).
The Golden Eagles earned the double point following wins by the No. 2 team of
Noa Davico and
Sakura Kurokawa, who prevailed 6-0 over Maxime Mendes and Kirra Morris and the No. 3 team of
Courtlyn Lam and
Savaughna Mayo, who picked up a 6-1 victory over Isabel Coscolluela and Lisanne Siebrecht.
The most competitive singles match came at the No. 1 spot, where Olmos fell to Carolina Guerrero in a third-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-4, 10-4.Â
The other five matches were decided in straight sets. Davico beat Julia Ramos, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles,
Berta Acero beat Morris, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, Kurokawa beat Mendes, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles,
Chelsey Ruiz beat Lisanne Siebrecht, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Mayo beat Catrina Hibbard, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action on Monday at Concordia at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles will then play at Biola on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before returning home to face Point Loma on Friday, April 15, at 1:30 p.m. on Senior Day. Cal State LA will honor
