NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's men's track and field team had some strong performances Saturday at the CSUN Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge.

The Golden Eagles won the 4x400 relay with a season's best time of 3:17.64 and Jesus Nichol II shattered his previous best time while finishing third in the 800 meters to highlight the weekend's events.

The winning relay team of Clifton Johnson, Donavan Williams, Shingirai Hlanguyo and Nichol captured the race and sliced one second off the relay's previous best time this season.

Nichol, meanwhile, sliced nearly three seconds off his 800-meter time and finished third in his race with a time of 1:53.46. Michael Diaz was eighth in that race with a time of 2:03.93.

Johnson led seven Golden Eagles across the line in the 400 meters while finishing fourth in the race with a time of 49.48. Hlanguyo was right behind in fifth place with a time of 49.79 and Williams was sixth in 50.51. Tyrel Mitchell was 12th in 53.39, Kyle Friesen was 13th in 53.78, Riley Williams was 14th in 55.71 and Jeremiah Curls was 15th in 56.78.

Myles Molette-Hughes was third in the triple jump with a mark of 44-0.75 and Lam Nguyen was fifth with a mark of 39-3.25.

On Friday, Hlanguyo led three Golden Eagles in the 200 with a time of 21.85.

Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Cal Berkeley.
