MANHATTAN BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball enjoyed some success Saturday on the sands at the Manhattan Beach Pier.
The Golden Eagles won four of the five contests in straight sets and posted a three-set victory at the No. 5 pairs to post a 5-0 win over Marymount. Cal State LA (3-8) snapped an eight-match losing streak with the victory.
Cal State LA also competed against Fullerton College in an exhibition match and prevailed by a 4-1 score. The NCAA only recognizes contests against four-year institutions.
Ashley Dittmann and
Iane Henke improved to 8-3 with a 21-6, 21-9 victory over Logan Kaneshiro and Marianna Turner at No. 1 pairs to highlight the day.
In the tightest match, Cal State LA took a three-set decision at No. 5 pairs where
Talia Niu and
Malia Apodaca beat Kiara Amigon and Haily Murray, 12-21, 21-11, 15-11.
Shelby Grubbs and
Allison Linder beat Samantha Carelock and Jaelah Curtis, 21-7, 21-7, at No. 2 pairs,
Eliza Cannon and
Adriana Santiago beat Jordan Schirman and Jordan Nunez, 19-21, 21-16, 15-8 at No. 3 pairs and
Jaden Grova and
Haley Roundtree beat Cat Angus and Sydney Jackson, 21-17, 21-15.
Cal State LA will return to action next Friday with matches against Loyola Marymount and Long Beach State at Loyola Marymount.
