NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team battled again Saturday against a pair of tough NCAA Division I opponents at Cal State Northridge.
The Golden Eagles fell to Boise State, 5-0, in their opening match before dropping a 4-1 decision for the second straight week to host CSUN.
And, for the second straight week, Cal State LA's No. 1 pairs team of
Ashley Dittmann and
Iane Henke pulled off a three-set win against CSUN's No. 1 team, Lauren Eknoian and Emily Sparks. This time, Dittmann and Henke prevailed, 22-20, 16-21, 15-13.
Dittmann and Henke have a 5-3 record so far this season at No. 1 pairs.
Cal State LA (2-6) dropped its other four matches against CSUN (8-8).
Emily Elliott and
Eliza Cannon fell to Seyvion Waggoner and Mikaela Maughan at No. 2 pairs, 21-13, 23-21,
Allison Linder and
Shelby Grubbs fell at No. 3 pairs to True McCullough and Darbi Honeycutt, 21-12, 21-11,
Haley Roundtree and
Jaden Grova fell at No. 4 pairs to Kailey Klein and Victoria Rogers 21-7, 21-16 and
Malia Apodaca and
Beatriz Jimenez fell at No. 5 pairs to Abbey Sweeting and Layla Cederlind, 21-10, 21-11.
Cal State LA was unable to take a set off Boise State (10-6), which posted wins over the Golden Eagles and CSUN on Saturday.
Dittmann and Henke fell to Erin Martin and Yasmin Tan at No. 1 pairs, 21-16, 21-10, Elliott and Cannon fell at No. 2 pairs to Rori Chartier and Sierra Land, 21-16, 21-13, Linder and Grubbs fell to Danielle Boss and Madison Nichols at No. 3 pairs, 21-6, 21-19, Roundtree and Grova fell to Joey Benson and Emilia Guerra-Acuna at No. 4 pairs, 21-10, 21-10 and Apodaca and Jimenez fell at No. 5 pairs to Kaylee Mejia and Alyssa Wissinger, 21-14, 21-3.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday with matches against Colorado Mesa and Concordia in Irvine.
