NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team came up short against Vanguard and Cal State Northridge on Saturday, but the No. 1 pairs team of Iane Henke and Ashley Dittmann had a remarkable afternoon.

Henke and Dittmann posted a pair of three-set wins on Saturday to highlight a day that saw the Golden Eagles come up short against both opponents by 4-1 scores at the Matador Beach Volleyball Facility. Cal State LA dropped to 2-4 on the season, while Vanguard improved to 9-4 and CSUN improved to 4-4.

Henke and Dittmann opened the day with a 21-23, 21-12, 15-9 win over Vanguard's Conley Harris and Natalie Escher. The Golden Eagles fell in the other four matches in straight sets.

Emily Elliott and Eliza Cannon fell to Morgan Nash and Vashti Elias Romero at No. 2 pairs, 21-16, 21-14, Allison LInder and Jaden Grova fell to Emma Galloway and Carly McKinnen at No. 3 pairs, 21-10, 21-9, Talia Niu and Ayjah Landers fell to Hally Herder and Madison Arnold, 21-11, 21-15 and Malia Apodaca and Beatriz Jimenez fell to Emilee Hall and Cambria Fernandez at No. 5 pairs, 21-4, 21-7.

In their second match of the day, Henke and Dittmann rallied to edge CSUN's Lauren Eknoian and Emily Sparks, 12-21, 22-20, 18-16 in an extremely competitive match. 

Elliott and Cannon fell to Seyvion Waggoner and Mikaela Maughan at No. 2 pairs, 21-15, 21-12, Linder and Grova fell to True McCullough and Darbi Honeycutt at No. 3 pairs, 21-9, 21-13, Niu and Landers fell to Kailey Klein and Victoria Rogers at No. 4 pairs, 21-15, 21-10 and Apodaca and Jimenez fell to Abbey Sweeting and Jadin Williams at No. 5 pairs, 21-14, 21-8.

Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday with matches against Boise State and CSUN at Cal State Northridge.
