LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's track and field team posted some strong early-season marks Saturday in the Golden Eagles' first home meet in two years.

Leon Tafirenyika recorded the team's first provisional qualifying mark of the season while taking second in the 400 meters with a time of 47.59. That mark is the best for Tafirenyika in his Cal State LA career.

Xavier Williams had a pair of career bests for the Golden Eagles in hurdles race. He took third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.68, which is just above the qualifying standard of 14.49 and he was second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.46.

Shingirai Hlanguyo was third in the men's 100 with a time of 10.65, just ahead of teammate Darnelle Harris, who was fifth in 10.75. Harris was the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Track Athlete of the Week last week after his big day at the Cerritos Invitational.

Harris was 10th in the 200 with a time of 21.72, while Hlanguyo was 11th in 21.82.

Jesus Nichol II picked up a win and a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 1:56.44, while newcomer Ajay Harrison picked up two wins in the discus with a mark of 134-6 and the hammer throw with a mark of 149-11. The Golden Eagles got another win in the 4x400 relay when Marquel Angelo, Nichol II, Clifton Johnson and Tafirenyika prevailed with a time of 3:20.38.

Cal State LA will return to action next weekend at the Kim Duyst Invitational at Stanislaus State.
