LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Javany McDermott has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday.
McDermott won two events and finished in the top three in two others to earn the first Women's Field Athlete of the Week award for the 2022 season.

McDermott captured wins in the high jump and triple jump, placed second in the long jump and was third in the 100-meter dash at the Cerritos Invitational on Saturday.

The senior from Brooklyn, N.Y. cleared 5-foot-3 to win the high jump, then posted a strong early-season mark of 37 feet, 11 ½ inches to win the triple jump.

In the long jump, her 16-foot-6 leap was good for second and her time of 13.16 seconds in the 100-meter dash was third best.
McDermott becomes the first student-athlete from Cal State LA to earn the weekly Women's Field Athlete since 2017 when J'Liyah Miles earned the honor for the week of April 10-16. Valexsia Droughn earned Track Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 18-24, 2019 and Feb. 24-March 1, 2020.
The CCAA split the weekly awards into two categories - track and field - in 2017.

The Golden Eagles will host the Cal State LA Invitational at Jesse Owens Track on Saturday with throwing events at Mt. SAC on Friday.
