Salgado Earns West Region Player Of The Week Honors

LOS ANGELES -- Another day, another honor for Cal State LA's A.J. Salgado.

One day after being named California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week, Salgado was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association West Region Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday. Salgado had a huge week at the plate to help the Golden Eagles split a four-game series at Biola.

Salgado went 9-for-16 in the four games with one double, one home run, five runs scored and five runs driven in. He started the series with a 5-for-5 performance that included four RBI and a pair of stolen bases on Thursday. He then added two hits in four at bats in a win on Friday and had two more hits in four at bats in the opener of a doubleheader on Saturday. He was held hitless in the finale, but drew a walk to keep his on-base streak in tact.

Salgado hit safely in Cal State LA's first nine games and has reached base safely in all 10 games so far this season. He leads the CCAA in batting average (.550), slugging percentage (.900), hits (22) and runs batted in (13). He is also second in the conference in on-base percentage (.587).

Cal State LA will open CCAA play with a four-game series at home against Stanislaus State beginning with a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. at Reeder Field.
