Golden Eagles Compete In The Highlander Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- Cal State LA's women's cross country returned to action on Saturday at the Highlander Invitational hosted by UC Riverside.

The Golden Eagles finished 25th overall, edging another NCAA Division II program, Regis, in a field that included several NCAA Division I programs. Adams State, a top Division II program, won the event with Cal State Fullerton, Arizona and Colorado rounding out the top-five.

Amelia Mercado was the team's No. 1 runner once again, placing 150th in a field of 276 runners. She had a time of 23:37.3 over a 6,000-meter course. 

Paloma Sanchez was next for the Golden Eagles, finishing 228th with a time of 25:27.8. Vanessa Monrreal was 263rd in 27:45.7, Crystal Duenas was 270th in 28:02.2, Sanaia Woods was 273rd in 29:44.7, Justice Goon was 274th in 29:51.5 and Riyanna Jackson was 275th in 34:04.2.

Cal State LA will return to action next Friday at Cal State Fullerton's John Elders Titan Invite in the Golden Eagles' last competition before the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships on Nov. 5.
