CARSON -- Cal State LA's baseball team rallied late in an attempt to snap its current tough stretch of games, but Cal State Dominguez Hills had the final comeback.
After dropping the opener of Sunday's doubleheader, the Golden Eagles rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the nightcap to grab a 6-5 lead, but the Toros countered with two runs to claim a 7-6 seven-inning win and a doubleheader sweep. Cal State LA (4-12, 3-9 CCAA) lost the opener, 10-4, and has now lost eight straight games.
Tyler Odekirk had an outstanding day at the plate and was 6-of-9 in the doubleheader with three runs scored.
Cal State LA had 20 hits in the doubleheader, while Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-9, 8-4 CCAA) had 19 hits.
Travis Burleson started the opener for the Golden Eagles and allowed only one hit over four innings. He walked seven and struck out eight.Â
The Toros led 3-0 after three innings and added four runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
Cal State LA rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to make it 7-4.
Jordan Myrow doubled to start the rally and Odekirk followed with a single.
Ryan Lewis singled in Myrow for the Golden Eagles' first run and Odekirk later scored on a passed ball.
Jacob Northup singled in a run and the final run scored after a single by
Randy Buenrostro was misplayed in the outfield.
The Toros got three runs back in the eighth inning to account for the final score.
The Golden Eagles rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the nightcap with a four-run rally in the fourth.
Gerardo Castaneda singled and
Nick Atkins reached on catcher's interference to start the inning. Odekirk singled in a run to make it 5-2 and Atkins scored on a passed ball to make it 5-3.
Allen Pacheco doubled in a run and
Aaron McCann singled in a run to tie the game.
The Golden Eagles then took a 6-5 lead in the sixth on a two-out run-scoring single by
Randy Buenrostro, but the Toros struck for two runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.Â
Micah Hee worked into the sixth inning for the Golden Eagles, while
Fino Amador finished up in relief and got the final three outs.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with the opener of a four-game series at Stanislaus State beginning at 6 p.m.
