TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's baseball team had a rough night in the opener of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series at Stanislaus State.
The Golden Eagles managed only five hits and one run and dropped the opener to the Warriors, 8-1, Friday at Warrior Baseball Field. Cal State LA (4-13, 3-10 CCAA) lost its ninth straight game, while Stanislaus State (13-6, 7-6 CCAA) snapped a three-game losing skid.
Jeff Zordani hit a solo home run to account for the Golden Eagles' only run, while
Nick Atkins went 3-of-3 with three doubles.
Rylan Tinsley hurled a complete game for the Warriors and improved to 6-0. He allowed five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out 12.
Saxon Andross went six innings for the Golden Eagles and gave up seven hits and three earned runs. He walked three and struck out six.
Miguel Garcia tossed one scoreless inning for the Golden Eagles.
The Warriors took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Alexis Paz hit a two-run double and Matt Elser singled him in for the third run. Stanislaus State added an unearned run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
Zordani connected for his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh to make it 4-1, but Elser hit a three-run double as part of a four-run Stanislaus State uprising in the bottom of the inning.
Cal State LA will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
