LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team fell short in the doubles Wednesday and it ended up being costly in a hard-fought loss to Concordia-Irvine.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point and that was the difference in a 4-3 loss to the Eagles at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (3-4) split the six singles matches with Concordia (3-1).
Cal State LA's No. 2 doubles team of
Chelsey Ruiz and
Berta Acero won its match over Concordia's Lisa Suzuki and Taylor Lau, but the Golden Eagles fell by 6-2 counts in the other two doubles matches.
The Golden Eagles picked up three points in singles. Ruiz beat Lou Perrot, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3 singles,
Sakura Kurokawa beat Suzuki, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 4 singles and
Mariko Sagara beat Roula Elmalah, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a match against Stanislaus State at 11 a.m.
