LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's 2020 baseball team hosted a talented team of players from the past last Saturday at the annual alumni game at Reeder Field.
The 2020 Golden Eagles started hot and jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a three-run home run to left field off the bat of senior
Randy Buenrostro. After a strong two-inning start from junior
Miguel Garcia, the 2020 team never relinquished the initial lead and won by a final score of 6-1.
As usual, the alumni showed strong support in their attendance and energy. A few players from the 1977 College World Series team returned to show their love for the program as they provided words of encouragement and advice to the current team members before the start of the season. The majority of the alumni team was made up of players from the last decade, including former MiLB professionals, Brandon Quintero (White Sox), Gabe Genter (Cardinals), and Jesus Campos (Angels). The lone run for the alumni came from a long single off that right-field wall hit by 2018 grad
Nic Bereaud.
The alumni game served as a quick tune-up for the 2020 team, as well as an appreciation for the players that have come through Cal State LA in years past. The Golden Eagles open the regular season against Northwest Nazarene on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m. on the opening day of a three-day tournament at Reeder Field.
