CHICO -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team saw a reversal of fortunes Saturday night in Chico.
The Golden Eagles fell behind by 14 points after the first quarter and never recovered in a 69-57 loss to the Wildcats in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game in Acker Gym. Cal State LA (8-11, 6-7 CCAA) had a three-game winning streak snapped and slipped into a tie for ninth place in the CCAA.
The result was strikingly different than the first meeting between the two teams. Cal State LA played one of its best games of the season in an 88-50 win in University Gym earlier this month.
Sydney Bordonaro had 17 points to lead the Golden Eagles, while
Alyssa Fisher had 11 points,.
Mackenzie Barnes had 10 points.
Cal State LA shot just 27.1 percent overall (19-of-70) and was just 5-of-23 from 3-point range (21.7 percent). Chico State (11-7, 7-5 CCAA) shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) and was 7-of-21 from 3-point range.Â
The Golden Eagles made only one basket in the first quarter and trailed, 20-6.
Rachael DiRegolo made the basket to make it 5-2, but the Golden Eagles wound up just 1-of-16 from the field in the opening quarter.
Cal State LA trailed 40-19 at halftime and 56-36 after three quarters.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday with a home game against Cal State Dominguez HIlls at 1 p.m.
