SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's women's basketball got another record-setting performance Saturday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association win at Cal State San Bernardino.
Freshman
Nicole Flennaugh tied a program record with eight 3-pointers and the Golden Eagles beat the Coyotes, 87-73, in Cousoullis Arena. Cal State LA (6-10, 4-6 CCAA) shot 63.2 percent from 3-point range.
Flennaugh tied the program mark that was set just nine days ago by teammate
Sydney Bordonaro. Flennaugh made her first eight 3-point attempts and finished the game 8-of-9. She also hit a pair of free throws to finish with a season-high 26 points. Bordonaro also had 26 points and was 4-of-8 from 3-point range. As a team, the Golden Eagles were 12-of-19 from 3-point range and just two off the program record of 14 in a game that was set in a win over Chico State on Jan. 2.
Rachael DiRegolo also had a big game with 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.
Ashlynn Sharp had 18 points to lead Cal State San Bernardino (1-12, 1-9 CCAA).
Alyssa Fisher also hit double figures for the Golden Eagles and had 10 points.
Cal State LA shot 45.2 percent overall (28-of-62), while Cal State San Bernardino shot 37.9 percent (25-of-66). The Coyotes were 10-of-27 from 3-point range. Cal State LA was 19-of-29 from the free-throw line, while Cal State San Bernardino was 13-of-18.
Cal State LA had a 43-40 rebounding edge, led by
Jo Ana Adams, who grabbed a career-high 12.
The Golden Eagles surrendered the opening basket of the game, but three straight 3-pointers by Flennaugh and a free-throw by DiRegolo accounted for a 10-0 run and gave the Golden Eagles the lead for good. Another 3-pointer by Flennaugh gave the Golden Eagles a 20-6 lead and a 3-pointer by Bordonaro gave the Golden Eagles their biggest lead, 25-9. Cal State LA had a 26-14 lead after one quarter and a 40-35 lead at halftime.
A pair of 3-pointers early in the third quarter by Flennaugh pushed the lead to 48-41 and another 3-pointer by Flennaugh made it 57-51 after the Coyotes had cut the deficit to three points.
A late 3-pointer by Bordonaro made it 68-58 after three quarters and a pair of free throws by Flennaugh early in the fourth quarter gave the Golden Eagles a 74-61 lead. The Golden Eagles maintained a double-digit margin the rest of the way.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a home game against Stanislaus State at 5:30 p.m.
