Golden Eagles Battle Into Darkness At Sonoma

ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State LA's offense was struggling on Saturday and the Golden Eagles found themselves in a real battle as darkness fell upon Seawolf Field.

The Golden Eagles managed only one run in a 7-1 loss in the opener of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader and things weren't a whole lot better in the nightcap. Cal State LA broke a scoreless tie in the seventh inning with a run, only to see the Seawolves tie it in the bottom of the inning. The teams battled through a scoreless eighth inning as well before the game was halted by darkness.

The game is set to resume at 10 a.m. before another doubleheader.

Cal State LA (14-16, 13-13 CCAA) and Sonoma State (16-15, 14-12 CCAA) had the series opener on Friday postponed due to rain.

The Golden Eagles were blanked until the eighth inning of the opener and saw a late rally end in the ninth with the bases loaded. Nick Moisant started for the Golden Eagles and allowed all five of his runs in the third inning. He went five innings and gave up eight hits and four earned runs while not walking anyone and striking out five.

Austin Nazabal allowed two hits and two runs in two innings and Jackson Bond pitched a scoreless eighth.

Adam Gordon was 2-for-5 for the Golden Eagles, who had nine hits and left 10 runners on base. Nate Alam was 2-for-4.

Odekirk walked, stole second and scored on a two-out double by Alec Daily in the eighth for the Golden Eagles' only run of the game.

In the nightcap, Saxon Andross was outstanding in a seven-inning outing. He allowed only four hits and one run while walking one and striking out eight. Angel Lerma got the first two outs in the eighth and Johnny Virgen got a key strikeout with the bases loaded to end the frame.

Cal State LA scored the first run of the game when Peabody doubled with two outs and scored on a run-scoring single by Alam.

Sonoma State tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but Andross got out of further trouble to leave the game tied.
