Golden Eagles Fall To No. 11 Hawaii Pacific

SURPRISE, ARIZ. -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team ran into a red-hot Hawaii Pacific team Thursday in a PacWest Conference Championships quarterfinal match.

The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point and were unable to earn a point in singles as the No. 11 team in the nation posted a 4-0 victory. No. 7 seed Cal State LA (7-11) will play in a consolation bracket match against Concordia on Friday, while No. 2 seed Hawaii Pacific (11-5) advances to the semifinals.

Amanda Schneider and Isabella Lopez dropped a hard-fought match at No. 1 doubles to Elodie Busson and Elisa Elhadj, 6-3, while Luciana Di Laura and Mariko Sagara fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, to Mihoki Miyahara and Sarah Ikioka. Cal State LA's Berta Acero Garcia and Chelsey Ruiz were locked in a 4-4 tie with Debora Echeverria and Heloise Le Normand at No. 3 doubles when the doubles point was clinched.

The first three singles matches went to Hawaii Pacific and ended the quarterfinal contest. Schneider lost to Busson at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, Di Laura lost at No. 2 singles to Elhadj and Lopez fell to Miyahara at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

Acero Garcia led at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 2-2, Ruiz trailed in a close match at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 2-1 and Sagara trailed in a tight match at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 2-3 when Hawaii Pacific clinched the contest.

Cal State LA will play in a consolation bracket match against Concordia on Friday at 1 p.m.
