LA JOLLA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team captured the doubles point Saturday at UC San Diego, but the Golden Eagles had their troubles in singles.

After winning two of the three doubles contests, the Golden Eagles managed only one singles point and fell to the Tritons, 4-2, in a West Region match at UC San Diego's Northview Tennis Courts. Cal State LA (6-10) will now set its sights on the season-ending PacWest Conference Championships, which will begin on Wednesday in Arizona.

The Golden Eagles got off to a good start when Berta Acero Garcia and Chelsey Ruiz beat Alexandra Weil and Madison Hale at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, and Luciana Di Laura and Mariko Sagara beat UC San Diego's Chloe Wight and Shweta Kumar, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. Isabella Lopez and Amanda Schneider lost a hard-fought contest at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, to Ashley Chao and Becky Chou.

Ruiz, who has been outstanding all season in singles, picked up another win at the No. 5 position, recording a 7-5, 6-3, win over Wight.

Di Laura was involved the match of the day, falling in a three-set match at No. 2 singles to Weil, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Cal State LA will begin play in the single-elimination PacWest Championships on Wednesday against an undetermined opponent.
