Golden Eagles Fall In Another Close Decision

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team found itself in another tight battle Thursday against NCAA Division II opponent Angelo State.

The Golden Eagles started slowly and dropped the doubles point, but made things interesting before ultimately falling, 4-3, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (4-5) split the six singles contests with one of the losses coming in a three-set battle. The Golden Eagles lost the singles point after falling in all three doubles match.

Four of Cal State LA's five losses this year have come by scores of 4-3.

Luciana Di Laura got the Golden Eagles on the board with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Ena Ovcina and Isabella Lopez beat Virginie Becht, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles. Cal State LA also got a win at No. 6 singles from Mariko Sagara, 7-5, 6-2, over Yasmine Ansari. Chelsey Ruiz battled in a close loss at No. 5 singles to Zoe Gubbels, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.

Amanda Schneider fell at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, to Valentina Gonzalez and Berta Acero Garcia fell at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Cal State LA will return to action on Monday with a home match against Nebraska-Omaha at 1:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast by RadioTennis.com
