LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got off to a good start on Monday against Biola and never let up.
The Golden Eagles earned the doubles point with a pair of victories and then won five of the six singles matches to earn a 6-1 decision over Biola at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (3-1) won its second straight match.
Cal State LA got the point in doubles thanks to a clutch win at No. 1 doubles from
Isabella Lopez and
Luciana Di Laura, 6-4. After
Amanda Schneider and
Chelsey Ruiz won at No. 2 doubles over Ines Diaz and Allison Torres and
Mariko Sagara and
Berta Acero Garcia fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, to Anna Hartmann and Lily Waterhouse, the doubles point came down to the No. 1 doubles match.
Lopez and Di Laura had a 5-2 lead, but saw it cut to 5-4. The Golden Eagles, with Lopez serving at deuce, captured the final point to take the match, 6-4.
Two of the six singles contests went down to the wire as well. Schneider rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win at No. 1 singles over Esther Lee, while Acero Garcia dropped a tight 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision at No. 3 singles to Diaz.
Cal State LA won the other singles contests in straight sets. Di Laura beat Lauren Lee at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, Lopez beat Waterhouse at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1, Ruiz beat Torres at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Sagara beat Sarah Morgan at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a home match against Sonoma State at 1:30 p.m.
