LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got its 2019 dual match season off to a promising start.
The Golden Eagles earned the doubles point by winning all three contests and then won four of the six singles matches to earn a 5-2 decision over Westmont Friday at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-0) was able to avenge a 5-4 loss to Westmont last season.
Cal State LA took control early in doubles.
Isabella Lopez and
Luciana Di Laura won at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, Amanda Scheider and
Chelsey Ruiz won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, and
Berta Acero Garcia and
Mariko Sagara won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
Schneider earned a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, Di Laura won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, Ruiz won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3 and Sagara won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home match against Hawaii Pacific.
