Golden Eagles Get A Big Road Win At Stanislaus

TURLOCK -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team picked up an impressive road victory Saturday night at Stanislaus State.

The Golden Eagles survived a major challenge late in the game and handed the Warriors their first conference loss of the season in an 85-82 victory in Fitzpatrick Arena. Cal State LA (4-5, 2-3 CCAA) won its second straight conference game this week.

Sydney Bordonaro had a season-high 28 points to lead the Golden Eagles, including a key go-ahead basket in the final minute. She was 10-of-17 from the field, including a 6-of-10 performance from 3-point range. Bordonaro also grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists.

Mackenzie Barnes had 17 points, Rachael DiRegolo had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Nicole Flennaugh had 15 points.

Kyanna Davis had 21 points and eight rebounds for Stanislaus State (5-4, 3-1 CCAA).

Cal State LA had a good night offensively and shot 53.3 percent for the game (32-of-60), including a 9-of-18 showing from 3-point range. Stanislaus State shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71), including 8-of-22 from 3-point range. Cal State LA had a 40-31 rebounding edge and won despite committing 25 turnovers to 13 for the Warriors.

The Golden Eagles scored the first nine points of the game after a basket by Flennaugh, a pair of free throws by DiRegolo and five straight points from Bordonaro, including a 3-pointer. Stanislaus State, though, closed the quarter with a 23-10 run to take a 23-19 lead after one period.

The Golden Eagles took a seven-point lead, 38-31, in the second quarter, but the Warriors made another run to take a 42-40 halftime lead.

The game was tied at 60-60, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Yesenia Smith and Bordonaro gave the Golden Eagles a 70-61 lead, a basket by DiRegolo gave the Golden Eagles a 74-64 lead and a pair of free throws by Barnes gave the Golden Eagles an 80-69 lead with 3:32 remaining. Stanislaus State, though, rallied to tie it at 81-81 with 48 seconds to go.

Bordonaro then hit a go-ahead jumper with 48 seconds left and a pair of free throws by Flennaugh closed out the game.

Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday in a non-conference game at Central Washington.
