ELLENSBURG, WA -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team saw its two-game trip to Washington get off to a rocky start on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles struggled on offense and fell to Central Washington, 75-52, in a non-conference game at Nicholson Pavilion. Cal State LA (4-6) had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Sydney Bordonaro and
Alyssa Fisher had 12 points each for the Golden Eagles, while
Amiete Nyingifa had 10 points.
Taylor Shaw had a game-high 24 points for Central Washington (6-4). Samantha Bowman had 17 points and 17 rebounds.
Mackenzie Barnes had six points for the Golden Eagles.
Cal State LA started slowly and fell into a 12-0 hole before
Nicole Flennaugh hit a pair of free throws to get the Golden Eagles on the board.
Jo Ana Adams made a basket and Bordonaro scored four straight points to make it 12-8 and the Golden Eagles trailed, 18-14, after one quarter.
A basket by Flennaugh tied the game at 20-20 early in the second quarter, but Central Washington scored the next eight points and ultimately grabbed a 38-26 halftime lead. Cal State LA trailed, 56-42, after three quarters and then scored only 10 points in the final period.
Cal State LA will complete its trip with a game at Seattle Pacific on Monday.
