Golden Eagles Drop Conference Game At East Bay

HAYWARD -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had a tough time slowing down host Cal State East Bay on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles trailed by only three points at halftime, but the Pioneers scored 51 points in the second half to post a 88-65 victory in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game in Pioneer Gym. Cal State LA (2-4, 0-2 CCAA) struggled on the boards and was out-rebounded by a 38-19 margin by Cal State East Bay (3-2, 1-0 CCAA).

Nicole Flennaugh had a game-high 20 points for the Golden Eagles, while Alyssa Fisher had 10 points.

Madison Schiller had 17 points to lead Cal State East Bay.

Rachael DiRegolo had eight points and seven rebounds, while Sydney Bordonaro had seven points and two rebounds.

Cal State LA fell behind by double-digits in the first quarter, but battled back to narrow the margin by halftime. The Golden Eagles got a basket from Fisher, one from Bordonario, another from Fisher and a free throw from Yesenia Smith to pull to within 35-34 before the Pioneers took a 37-34 lead at halftime.

A 3-pointer by Flennaugh kept the margin at three points at 40-37, but the Pioneers responded with an 8-0 run and Cal State LA never recovered.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a conference game at Humboldt State at 5:30 p.m.
