CARSON -- Cal State LA's women's volleyball team had a few anxious moments at the end, but regrouped to complete a three-set sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Golden Eagles saw a 24-20 third-set lead disappear, but scored the final two points to secure a 25-12, 25-17, 26-24 victory over the Toros in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match Saturday in the Torodome. Cal State LA (10-5, 6-1 CCAA) won for the eight time in its last nine matches while completing a season sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-6, 1-6 CCAA).
Mickayla Sherman had a match-high 13 kills and three blocks for the Golden Eagles, while
Daisy Crenshaw hit a lifetime best of .786 after posting 11 kills in 14 attacks with no errors. That mark is No. 2 all-time for Cal State LA.  The only player ever to hit at a higher percentage was Linda Saucedo, who had 15 kills in 19 attacks with no errors and a .789 percentage. Crenshaw also had a team-high five blocks.
Crenshaw hit .765 with 13 kills in 17 swings with no errors in the first meeting this year against the Toros.
Rylee Brown and Kenadi Mitchell had nine kills each for the Toros.
Daisy Portillo and
Julia Azevedo had five kills for the Golden Eagles.
Shea McGovern had 19 set assists and five digs, while
Laisa Maeda had 14 assists and eight digs.
Karla Santos had four kills and nine digs.
Cal State LA had a 43-30 advantage in kills and hit at an efficient .327 clip to .068 for the Toros. Cal State LA also had a 10-4 edge in blocks and a 4-1 edge in service aces. Negron had three aces, while McGovern had one.
The Golden Eagles hit at a .407 percentage in the opening set with 14 kills and only three errors and hit .464 in the second set with 14 kills and only one error.
The opening set was close early and the Golden Eagles held an 11-8 lead before outscoring the Toros, 14-4, down the stretch. Back-to-back kills from Sherman ended the set.
Cal State LA took control of the second set with a 4-0 run that extended a 15-12 lead to 19-12. A kill by
Shelby Grubbs gave the Golden Eagles a 20-13 lead an a kill by Crenshaw, an ace by Negron and an attack error ultimately ended the set.
Cal State LA trailed as late as 20-19 in the third set, but got kills from Sherman, Azevedo and Sherman again and back-to-back aces from Negron to get to match point at 24-20. The Toros, though, fought back and tied it at 24-24 before a block by Sherman and Grubbs and an attack error ended the match.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a home match against Humboldt State.Â
