AZUSA -- Cal State LA's 
Amanda Schneider won her opening match on Friday on Day 2 of the Oracle/ITA West Region Championships hosted by Azusa Pacific before falling in a huge battle in the quarterfinals.
Schneider started the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over MariaCristina Andrisani of Academy of Art in a Round of 16 match. She then met Azusa Pacific's Diana Baumgartnere and fell in a three-set contest, 6-3, 3-6, 13-11. The match was decided in a 10-point super tiebreaker with a player needing to win by two points.
Schneider and 
Elizaveta Sokolova, seeded No. 4 in doubles, also played well in a pair of matches on Friday. The Cal State LA team beat Andrieva and Andrisani of Academy of Art, 8-5, before dropping a hard-fought 9-7 decision in the quarterfinals, 9-7..
The winners of the singles and doubles will qualify for the Oracle Cup, which will be held on Oct. 11-15 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The national championship event will include all eight regional champions from the NCAA Division II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges.
