LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team found itself in quite a battle Saturday night against NCAA Division II newcomer Concordia Irvine.
The Golden Eagles erased a 1-0 deficit on a second-half penalty kick goal by
Danielle Telles and battled to a 1-1 draw in their 2015 season opener at Jesse Owens Track. While Cal State L.A., ranked 18
th in the nation, was making its season debut, Concordia (0-1-1) was playing its second game of the season after falling to UC San Diego in overtime earlier in the week.
Cal State L.A. had an 11-6 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had four corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles had some good looks to win the game in the first overtime period, only to see a shot bounce off the post and two other opportunities blocked. Concordia had a bid in the second overtime bounce off the crossbar.
Cal State L.A.'s Veronica Steen had a team-high four shots, including a pair of chances stopped by Concordia goalkeeper Jazmin Alvarez.

Sahar Arghandiwal also had shots.
Kristen Pepperling scored Concordia's lone goal in the 40
th minute. Telles tied it with her penalty shot in the 65
th minute.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Tuesday against another talented PacWest program, Point Loma, at 4:30 p.m. in San Diego.
