Box Score HAYWARD -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team, after winning its first six California Collegiate Athletic Association matches away from home, has hit a few bumps in the road.
The Golden Eagles dropped their third consecutive road match on Friday when Cal State East Bay rallied for a 19-25, 25-22, 29-27, 25-18 victory in Pioneer Gym. Cal State L.A. (14-10, 9-7 CCAA) won the first set and had a 21-16 lead in the second set before Cal State East Bay (10-14, 6-10 CCAA) came roaring back with an 8-0 run that turned the match around.
Both teams had set points in the pivotal third frame before the Pioneers won the final three points for a 29-27 set win and then held the Golden Eagles at bay in the fourth and final set.
Iona Lofrano had 20 kills for Cal State L.A., while
Kymberly Silveyra had 13 kills and 12 digs.
Alexandra Bura had 39 set assists, nine digs and two service aces, while
Colby Joseph had 11 digs.
Katie Allen had 14 kills and four blocks for the Pioneers, while Amber Hall had 11 kills and Samantha Bruno had 10 kills.
Cal State East Bay had a 56-53 advantage in kills and an 8-2 edge in blocks. The Pioneers also outhit the Golden Eagles, .284-.190. Cal State L.A. had six service aces and six serving errors, while Cal State East Bay had seven aces and 10 kills.
Cal State L.A. started well and opened up a quick 17-9 lead on a kill by
Loreal Carter. A kill by Lofrano kept the advantage at 18-10 and a later kill by Lofrano wrapped up the set at 25-19.
The Golden Eagles then opened up a 21-16 lead in the second set before Cal State East Bay turned things completely around with an 8-0 run that got the Pioneers to set point at 24-21. A kill by
JamieAnn Bero made it 24-22, but the Pioneers got the next point to even the match.
The Golden Eagles had a 20-17 lead in the third set and held their first of two set points on a kill by Lofrano that made it 26-25. Another kill by Lofrano got the Golden Eagles to 27-26, but the Pioneers evened the set and then won it on back-to-back kills by Allen.
Cal State L.A. fell behind in the fourth set, 13-7, and never could recover.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday night with a road match at Cal State Monterey Bay.
