Golden Eagles See Road Streak Come To An End

Box Score ROHNERT PARK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team had been enjoying great success on the road in California Collegiate Athletic Association, but Sonoma State was in no mood to let those good times continue on Friday.

The Seawolves swept the first two sets and went on to a 25-15, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12 Friday in The Wolves' Den. Cal State L.A. (14-8, 9-5) had won its first six conference matches away from home prior to the loss to Sonoma State (18-4, 11-3 CCAA). The Seawolves completed a season sweep of the Golden Eagles, winning both contests in four sets.

Iona Lofrano had 10 kills, 17 digs and three blocks for the Golden Eagles, while Bethanee Boggs had nine kills and a .429 percentage and Loreal Carter had nine kills and three blocks.

Caylie Seitz had 21 kills and hit at a .413 percentage to lead the Seawolves. Kelsey Hull had 12 kills, 13 digs and five blocks, while Madelyn Densberger had 12 kills.

Sonoma State had a 58-42 advantage in kills and outhit the Golden Eagles, .278-.111. The Seawolves also had a 10-9 blocking edge. Both teams had four service aces and seven serving errors.

Alexandra Bura had 35 set assists, seven digs and four kills, while Colby Joseph contributed 14 digs.

The Golden Eagles dropped the first two sets, but had their stretches of the match in the third frame. The Golden Eagles opened up a 23-13 lead after a kill by Lofrano and a block by JamieAnn Bero and Lofrano and ultimately ended the set with a kill by Boggs.

Sonoma State, though, carried over some momentum it built at the end of the third set into the fourth set and jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead. Cal State L.A. never recovered. The Golden Eagles got to within 11-7 after a kill by Bura and to within 13-8 after a kill by Bero, but Sonoma State went on a 12-4 run to close out the match.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with a road match at San Francisco State.
