Box Score LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team made it two for two this week with another impressive defensive showing in a key California Collegiate Athletic Association match.
The Golden Eagles got a first-half goal from
Megan Ollar and made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday on a hot day at Jesse Owens Stadium. Cal State L.A. (5-3-2, 4-3-1 CCAA) recorded its second straight 1-0 victory and remains in a tie for second place in the CCAA South Division with Cal State San Bernardino.
The Golden Eagles started the week with a big 1-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino in San Bernardino.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-6-2, 1-6-1 CCAA), which was coming off an impressive 1-1 tie with UC San Diego on Friday, fell to the Golden Eagles for the second time this season. Both games were decided by a score of 1-0 and Ollar scored the goal in both wins by Cal State L.A.
Cal State L.A. had a 10-6 advantage in shots, while Cal State Dominguez Hills had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Gabriela Batmani made four saves for the Golden Eagles, while Tiffany Hollis made one save for Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The game's only goal came in the 27
th minute as Ollar picked up her team-leading third goal of the season. She received a pass from
Stephanie Lopez and was able to flick a shot past Hollis and just inside the far post.
Tahne Apo had a strong game for the Golden Eagles and had a match-high four shots on goal, including one late in the game that almost gave Cal State L.A. a 2-0 lead. Apo maneuvered around a host of Cal State Dominguez Hills defenders in the box and whipped a shot from point-blank range that hit the crossbar and bounced out of play.
Claudia Toledo had four shots to lead the Toros, including three that were saved by Batmani.
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a home game against Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m.
