Cal State East Bay (2-3-1, 0-3-1) earned its first conference point after playing some tough matches early in the season against the top three teams in the North Division. The Pioneers, after tying the game in the 73rd minute, had some golden opportunities to win the game in the first overtime period, only to see one shot hit the post, another hit the crossbar and a rebound from point-blank range fly high over the bar.

Cal State L.A. had its best chance at a game-winner in the second overtime, but a bid by Tahne Apo sailed wide.

Cal State East Bay had a 20-19 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in the first overtime period when the Pioneers almost won it. Cal State L.A. had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Cal State L.A. goalkeeper Gabriella Batmani had four saves for the Golden Eagles, while Cal State East Bay goalkeeper Nina Cefalo also had four saves.

The Golden Eagles used some defensive pressure and a timely steal from Tera Piserchio to break a scoreless tie early in the second half. With the Golden Eagles pressuring the goalkeeper in the 57th minute, the ball was turned over and Piserchio was there to knock it into the open goal for her second goal of the season.

The Pioneers regrouped after the goal and tied it up in the 73rd minute. After a Cal State L.A. foul, Kara Yamamoto sent a soft pass over to Zuly Diaz, who blasted a shot from just outside the box and into the upper part of the goal. It was her first goal of the season.

The Pioneers almost ended the game early in the first overtime period, but a shot by Breahna Berry hit the far post and was knocked away by Batmani. A few minutes later, Diaz had a hard shot blocked, but gathered the rebound and sent a blast off the crossbar. The rebound bounced to Allison Ventura, whose bid for a game-winner went over the crossbar.

Things settled down after that flurry and the teams ultimately settled for the tie.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Cal State Monterey Bay.
