Golden Eagles Rebound With Win Over Dominguez Hills

Box Score CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team bounced back from its heartbreaking defeat on Friday with an important California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles got a goal from Megan Ollar in the first eight minutes of the game and made it stand up in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Toros at Toro Field. Cal State L.A. (3-2-1, 2-2 CCAA) got a strong defensive effort and goalkeeper Gabriella Batmani made one save for the Golden Eagles' second shutout of the season.

Cal State L.A. was coming off an excruciating double-overtime 2-1 loss to UC San Diego on Friday that came following a foul with tme winding down and a Triton goal on the resulting free kick with three seconds remaining. The Golden Eagles had also taken a 1-0 lead against UC San Diego on Friday. This time, the Golden Eagle defense kept the Toros at bay.

Both teams ended up with 10 shots, although Cal State L.A. had a 6-1 edge in shots on goal. Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Jennifer Ackerly made five saves.

Ollar scored her second goal of the season just 7:22 into the contest. Adriana Valdez got the assist after sending a cross in from the right side that Ollar was able to direct into the goal.

The Golden Eagles had a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half and Ackerly made a pair of saves late in the period to keep it a 1-0 game. Cal State L.A.'s Tahne Apo had a bid in the 41st minute that was stopped and Joanne Almaguer had a shot saved in the final minute of the period.

Each team hit a post in a scoreless second half.

Cal State L.A.'s Heather Williams hit the post in the 49th minute, while Cal State Dominguez Hills' Lexi Ford hit the post in the 63rd minute. Batmani made her only save of the contest in the 73rd minute. After a shot by the Toros' Claudia Toledo was blocked, Amanda Bolanos got off a shot that Batmani saved to preserve the lead.

That was the last shot of the game for the Toros as Cal State L.A. snapped a two-game losing streak.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a home game against Cal State East Bay.
