No. 17 Golden Eagles Pick Up Important Win Over Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team was impressive again in an important victory over an NCAA Division II West Region opponent.
 
The Golden Eagles once again swept the three doubles contests and won four of the six singles match to beat Sonoma State, 7-2, Friday in Rohnert Park. Cal State L.A. (10-4), which is ranked 17th in the nation and fourth in the West Region, picked up its four singles points in straight sets.
 
Cal State L.A. opened its three-day road trip with a 7-2 win over Academy of Art on Thursday. The Golden Eagles completed a season sweep of Sonoma State (8-8), which is No. 43 in the country and rated eighth in the West Region.
 
Christie Lau and Larn McShane led the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Sonoma State's Megan White and Krista Cole. Leora Hemmerich and Jill Sangria won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, over Stephanie Hoffmire and Brooke McBride, while Tiffany Leung and Maria Xavier won at No. 3 doubles, 8-6, over Lauren Ha and Sheena Johnson.
 
Lau won her match at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over White, Hemmerich won at No. 3 singles over McBride, 6-4, 6-0, Sangria won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Hoffmire and Leung won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Johnson.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with a match at Cal State Stanislaus scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start.
