LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team put up a battle and then some in its 2012 season opener Wednesday at the CSULA Tennis Complex.

The Golden Eagles and NAIA power Concordia battled until dark before Concordia prevailed, 6-3, in a match that took nearly five hours to complete and finished under the lights.

After the Golden Eagles and Eagles split the first four singles matches to be completed, the match came down to a pair of three-set battles at No. 1 singles between Cal State L.A.'s Christie Lau and Concordia's Bettina Radke and at No. 5 singles between Cal State L.A.'s Tiffany Leung and Concordia's Summer Beaird. The Cal State L.A. players had battled back after losing the opening set in both matches, but Concordia eventually pulled out both contests to secure the match.
 
Concordia took two of the three doubles contests to take an early lead. Cal State L.A. picked up its only point at No. 2 doubles, where Lau and Jill Sangria prevailed, 8-2.
 
Larn McShane at No. 3 singles and Sangria at No. 4 singles both won in straight sets to give the Golden Eagles a shot with the two matches still being contested.
 
 Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with a road match at NCAA Division I program Cal State Bakersfield.
