There weren't many scoring chances in a tight defensive struggle on Sunday, but San Francisco State (4-6-1, 2-6-1 CCAA) had a splendid chance late in the first half, only to see Cal State L.A. goalkeeper
Gabriella Batmani come up with one of her best saves of the season.
Elizet Ceja fired a shot from inside the box that Batmani made a leaping effort to tip just out of danger in the 44
th minute. San Francisco State then came up empty on the ensuing corner kick to keep the game scoreless.
That was by far the best scoring opportunity of an evenly-played contest. Cal State L.A. had a 10-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Batmani finished with five saves for the Golden Eagles, while Annicia Jones made four saves for San Francisco State.
Michelle Kay had three shots for the Gators, while Ceja's two shots were both on target.
Raquel Gervas had three shots for the Golden Eagles, while
Tahne Apo and
Joanne Almaguer had two shots each.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday with a game at South Division leading UC San Diego in La Jolla.
