Golden Eagles, Broncos Battle To 0-0 Draw In CCAA Play

Box Score LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team continues to work overtime in its home games at Jesse Owens Stadium.

The Golden Eagles battled Cal Poly Pomona to a 0-0 tie Friday in a fast-paced California Collegiate Athletic Association contest. That's the third straight game between the Golden Eagles and Broncos that has ended in a tie. Last year, the teams battled to a pair of 1-1 draws.

Cal State L.A. (5-3-3, 4-3-2 CCAA) moved into second place in the CCAA South Division with 14 points, while Cal Poly Pomona (4-4-2, 2-4-2) earned a point and now has eight points in conference play.

Cal State L.A. has now had four of its five home games go into a second overtime. The Golden Eagles have ties with Cal State East Bay and Cal Poly Pomona and heartbreaking losses to UC San Diego and Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Golden Eagles had a 16-10 advantage in shots, while both teams had a pair of corner kicks.

Cal Poly Pomona goalkeeper Sarah Rohman made five saves, while Cal State L.A.'s Gabriella Batmani, last week's CCAA Player of the Week, made four saves.

The Golden Eagles have now recorded three straight shutouts. So, too, has Cal Poly Pomona.

The only time the ball did go into the net came in the first half when Cal State L.A.'s Heather Williams drilled a shot inside the far post after a Cal Poly Pomona foul. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, it was an indirect free kick and since no one else touched it, the apparent goal was waved off.

The best save of the night came on a shot by Kaelyn Kaichi that Batmani was able to bat just over the crossbar before it went into the upper part of the goal. Cal Poly Pomona was unable to score on the ensuing corner kick.

Cal State L.A.'s Tera Piserchio had a shot hit the top of the crossbar later in the second half and Tahne Apo had five shots for the night, including two that Rohman made nice saves to stop.

Allyson Sherwood, in her first game of the season, had some nice chances as well. She had some nice runs throughout the game and finished with three shots.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a home game against San Francisco State.
