Golden Eagles Are Fit To Be Tied Against Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team was fit to be tied Friday night in Cal Poly Pomona's Kellogg Field.
 
The Golden Eagles had potential game-winning shots hit a post and a crossbar in a five-minute span and settled for a 1-1 tie with the Broncos in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game in Pomona. The result left the two teams tied in the standings as well. Cal State L.A. (5-2-2, 3-2-2 CCAA) extended its unbeaten streak to five games after an 0-2 start in conference play and remained tied with Cal Poly Pomona (5-2-2, 3-2-2 CCAA.
 
Cal State L.A. had a 25-17 advantage in shots and was in control after halftime, securing a 20-8 edge in shots in the second half and the two 10-minute overtime periods. In the second overtime, a shot by Ayana Younge hit the post in the 103rd minute and an attempt by Andrea Lammers in the 108th minute hit the crossbar. Norie Pablo also had a shot that sailed high and Lisa Ohberg had a header shot saved by Cal Poly Pomona goalkeeper Sarah Rohman in the second overtime.
 
Cal Poly Pomona had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Rohman, who came on at halftime for the Broncos, had 10 of the team's 12 saves in the contest. Jessie Walworth made seven saves for the Golden Eagles.
 
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Angela Garcia scored her third goal of the season. She took a pass from Jennifer Rivera, dribbled around a defender and nailed a shot from about 20 yards out.
 
The Broncos had a 9-5 edge in shots in the first and took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
Cal State L.A. finally got the equalizer in the 69th minute on Cari Gill's first goal of the season. Young sent in a cross from the right corner and, after the ball bounced in the box, Gill made a sliding shot into the net.
 
Cal State L.A. continued its attack and had eight shots and a corner kick in the final 20 minutes of regulation.
 
The Broncos had a 4-1 edge in shots in the first overtime and Walworth made a save on a shot by Brittany Aldrich in the 95th minute.
 
Cal State L.A. had a 4-0 edge in shots in the second overtime, including the two that struck metal rather than the back of the net.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a road game at San Francisco State.
