The Golden Eagles picked up a 7-2 win over Hawaii-Hilo in the afternoon, but then were beaten by Chaminade, 6-3, in an evening match.
The Golden Eagles started their day with the 7-2 win over Hawaii-Hilo.
Christie Lau won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0;
Larn McShane won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4;
Linda Majzlikova won at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 6-2,
Jillian Sangria won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and
Charlotte Spassoff won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The best point of the match came at No. 2 doubles, where Sangria and Spassoff prevailed over Hawaii-Hilo's Kelsey Daguio and Janelle Ng, 9-7. Lau and McShane also won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.
In the night match, the Golden Eagles took two of the three doubles points when Sangria and Spassoff won at No. 2 doubles, 8-3 and Majzlikova and Librando won at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
McShane, though, was unable to play in singles, resulting in Cal State L.A. players moving up a spot. Sangria, playing at No. 3 singles, was the only Golden Eagle to pick up a point, winning 6-3, 6-1. Lau lost a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Cal State L.A. is now 3-3 on the season, 3-1 in Division II matches.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a match against Hawaii Pacific at noon in Glendale, AZ.
