No. 21 Golden Eagles Record Sweep Over CS Stanislaus

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team started quickly and never let up Saturday in its California Collegiate Athletic Association match against Cal State Stanislaus.
 
The Golden Eagles swept past the Warriors, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 Saturday night in the Eagles Nest to complete a conference opening-weekend sweep. Cal State L.A. (5-1, 2-0 CCAA) hit at a sizzling .388 percentage to post its third three-set sweep of the season. The Golden Eagles were coming off a four-set win over Chico State on Friday.
 
Cal State Stanislaus (3-3, 1-1 CCAA) had to settle for a split in its opening week of competition.
 
Cal State L.A., ranked 21st in the nation, got 10 kills each from Natalia Gonzalez and Zuzana Cizova. Chelsea Hamilton had another strong performance with nine kills in 16 swings for a .500 hitting percentage. She had the same percentage in Friday's win over Chico State.
 
Lianne Vicchio had a team-high eight kills for the Warriors.
 
Cal State L.A. had a 44-28 edge in kills and outhit the Warriors, .388-.129. Both teams finished with five service aces and three blocks.
 
Amrita Tuladhar had 36 set assists, eight digs and two kills for the Golden Eagles.
 
Cal State L.A. trailed early, 9-7, but used as strong serving run from Gonzalez to take the lead for good. A Gonzalez ace put the Golden Eagles ahead, 10-9, a kill by Briana Fields made it 11-9 and a kill by Hamilton made it 12-9. Cal State L.A. opened up a 21-14 lead after a kill by Marquis Mora and led comfortably the rest of the way. An ace by Tuladhar got the Golden Eagles to set point and a kill by Gonzalez ended it.
 
The Golden Eagles opened up a 21-13 lead in the second set, but then had to survive a late Cal State Stanislaus rally. After the Golden Eagles took a 24-17 lead, the Warriors rattled off four straight points on a kill by Andrea Fett, two Cal State L.A. attack errors and a kill by Vicchio. After a Cal State L.A. timeout, a kill by Hamilton ended the set.
 
Cal State L.A. scored the first four points of the third set behind the serving of Hamilton and never trailed. After the Warriors trimmed the deficit to 18-15, a kill by Sade Greene, a block by Kassie Faulkner and Greene, an attack error and a kill by Hamilton gave the Golden Eagles some breathing room. A kill by Hamilton got the Golden Eagles to match point and an attack error by the Warriors ended the match.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday with a home match against Cal State San Bernardino.
