LA JOLLA – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team put up a better battle the second time around against California Collegiate Athletic Association leader UC San Diego, but still came up short.
The Golden Eagles captured one doubles contest and a pair of singles matches, but fell to No. 15 UC San Diego, 6-3, Saturday in La Jolla. Cal State L.A. (7-8, 2-5 CCAA) had lost to the Tritons (11-5, 7-1 CCAA), 8-1, in a match in February in Los Angeles.
Dora Kiss was victorious for the second time this year against UC San Diego's Taskeen Bains at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Jillian Sangria was strong at No. 3 singles and beat Valerie Tang, 6-4, 6-0, for the Golden Eagles' other singles win.
The lone point in doubles came at the No. 2 spot, where Sangria and
Adriana Espinosa beat Jacquelyn Davis Davis and Anita Athavale, 8-6.
UC San Diego won the other two doubles matches, both by scores of 8-2, and the other four singles contests in straight sets.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Tuesday with a match at Cal Poly Pomona beginning at 1:30 p.m.
