ROHNERT PARK – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team gave a pretty good indication of how much it has improved this season with an important conference win on Friday.

 

The Golden Eagles erased an early-season defeat to Sonoma State by beating the Seawolves, 6-3, Friday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match at the SSU Tennis Courts. Cal State L.A. (7-6, 2-3) won its third consecutive match. The first two victories in the current win streak came in Hawaii.

 

Cal State L.A. had lost to the Seawolves (8-8, 3-5 CCAA), 6-3, in Los Angeles on Feb. 13. In that match, the Golden Eagles lost all three doubles contests and split the six singles matches.

 

In the rematch on Friday, the Golden Eagles won two of the three doubles contests and took singles matches from the top four positions in the lineup, all in straight sets.

 

Dora Kiss and Linda Majzlikova set the tone for the match, taking their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, over Stephanie Luk and Molly Maguire. Kiss then won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Luk, while Majzlikova beat Haley Hickock at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

 

Jillian Sangria was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, over Jeanette Peck, while Lana Lamesic won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over Maguire.

 

The Golden Eagles took a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to a key 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles from Lamesic and Marine Prevost.

 

Cal State L.A., which is 3-2 in five road matches over the past six days, will face Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday in a CCAA match in Turlock beginning at noon.
