LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team is enjoying its week-long string of matches at home.
The Golden Eagles posted their third straight win with an 9-0 victory over NCAA Division II West Region opponent Hawaii-Hilo Friday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (3-4) dropped its first four matches to start the season, but has now won three contests over the past four days.
Dora Kiss and
Linda Majzlikova had the most dramatic victories of the day, Kiss rallied from deficits of 3-0 in the first set and 5-1 in the second set to post a 6-3, 7-6 win over Hawaii-Hilo's Christie Pagatpatan at No. 1 singles, whlie Majzlikova rallied from one set down to beat Justine Abella, 6-7, 6-4, 12-10 at No. 2 singles. It was the second straight day Majzlikova posted a win in a third-set tiebreaker. Kiss and Majzlikova also teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
The other four Cal State L.A. players won their matches in straight sets.
Jillian Sangria beat Anna Hamlin at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0,
Lana Lamesic beat Jenna DeCleene at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2,
Marine Prevost beat Madison Wells at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and
Adriana Espinosa beat Kari Rodrigues at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles took quick control of the match by sweeping the three doubles contests. Kiss and Majzlikova earned the first point of the match and were quickly followed by Lamesic and Prevost, who won at No. 3 doubles, 8-3. Sangria and Espinosa earned a hard-fought 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday morning with another home match against Grand Canyon beginning at 10 a.m.
