LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team battled well in several contests Thursday, but couldn't avoid being blanked by Cal Poly Pomona in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match.
The Golden Eagles held late leads in two of the three doubles contests and won the first set in two singles contests, yet still fell to the Broncos, 9-0, Thursday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (0-2, 0-2 CCAA) lost for the second time in two conference matches, while Cal Poly Pomona (2-1, 1-0) was successful in its first conference contest of the season.
The Golden Eagles lost all three doubles contests for the second straight match, but was close at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.
Dora Kiss and
Linda Majzlikova fell to Jackie Trendt and Jennifer Chow, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while
Adriana Espinosa and
Marine Prevost were edged by Fallon Blattner and Mallory Brady at No. 3 doubles, 9-7.
Kiss fell to Lau at No. 1 singles in the best match of the day. After the top players split the first two sets, Kiss rallied from an 8-2 deficit in the tiebreaker to tie it at 8-8 before Lau came back to win the last two points and the match, 2-6, 6-2, (10-8).
Marine Prevost also won the first set at No. 6 singles before Cal Poly Pomona's Michelle Stock came back to prevail, 5-7, 6-2, (11-9).
Lana Lamesic lost at No. 2 singles to Trendt, 6-3, 6-4, Majzlikova lost to Chow at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-1,
Jillian Sangria lost at No. 4 singles to Mallory Brady, 6-4, 6-1 and Espinosa fell to Kaitlin Wooldridge, 7-6, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Wednesday with a match at Division I Cal State Northridge
